While employed by HR City, I attended the parliament portfolio committee on labour relations to debate and argue against the proposed changes to existing labour legislation as well as the introduction of new laws which would make it even harder for employers in South Africa to conduct business.
A lot of these changes will negatively impact on business in South Africa and will severely restrict the ability of smaller businesses to grow while significantly increasing unemployment and contributing to poverty.
I presented a lengthy set of opinions and was met with strong opposition from the organized labour delegations. It must however be noted that most businesses agreed on the fact that the proposed amendments to labour legislation would be detrimental to the South African Economy.
While the proposed amendments are legion, I chose to focus only on the most disastrous of these amendments, a full copy of the presentation is available for Download.
Presentations by the SACCI, the Forestry Sector and various other stakeholders were also heard during the two days of debate and HR City was invited to answer to certain questions in writing. For now it remains to be seen whether the comments and concerns raised by HR City will be heeded.
